景德镇设镇于东晋时期，始称“昌南”，后易名“新平”，辖于江州；唐天宝元年（742年）更名“浮梁”；北宋赵恒景德元年定名“景德镇”，辖于浮梁县；解放后从浮梁县分出，置景德镇市；1960年，浮梁县并入景德镇市 [56]。景德镇市是世界瓷都，中国直升机工业的摇篮、首批国家历史文化名城、世界手工艺与民间艺术之都、中国最具魅力文化旅游城市。

景德镇素有“瓷都”之称，瓷器造型优美、品种繁多、装饰丰富、风格独特，以“白如玉，明如镜，薄如纸，声如磬”著称。其青花瓷、玲珑瓷、粉彩瓷、色釉瓷，合称景德镇四大传统名瓷。历史上的景德镇瓷器，不但海内擅声，而且海外亦广为流誉。据有关史书记载，古代东南亚、阿拉伯、非洲及欧洲地区的人十分喜欢中国瓷器，特别是景德镇的瓷器。明永乐三年（1405年）开始，郑和七次下西洋，携带的大量瓷器，景德镇瓷器占有重要地位。陈志岁《景德镇》诗：“莫笑挖山双手粗，工成土器动王都。历朝海外有人到，高岭崎岖为坦途。”诗朴实地纪载了“瓷都”的历史形迹，且写出了景德镇瓷器在国际市场上的地位。

Jingdezhen was established as a town during the Eastern Jin Dynasty, initially called "Changnan" and later renamed "Xinping", under the jurisdiction of Jiangzhou; In the first year of the Tianbao reign of the Tang Dynasty (742 AD), it was renamed "Fuliang"; In the first year of the Jingde reign of Zhao Heng in the Northern Song Dynasty, it was named "Jingdezhen" and governed Fuliang County; After liberation, it was separated from Fuliang County and established as Jingdezhen City; In 1960, Fuliang County was merged into Jingdezhen City. Jingdezhen City is the world's porcelain capital, the cradle of China's helicopter industry, one of the first national historical and cultural cities, the world's handicraft and folk art capital, and the most charming cultural tourism city in China.

Jingdezhen is known as the "Porcelain Capital" for its beautiful porcelain shapes, diverse varieties, rich decorations, and unique styles. It is renowned for its "white as jade, clear as a mirror, thin as paper, and sound like a bell". Its blue and white porcelain, Linglong porcelain, pink porcelain, and colored glazed porcelain are collectively known as the four traditional famous porcelain of Jingdezhen. Chen Zhisui's poem "Jingdezhen" reads: "Do not laugh at the rough hands of digging mountains, but use earth tools to move the capital city. Throughout the ages, people have come from overseas, and the rugged mountains have been a smooth path." The poem vividly records the historical traces of the "porcelain capital" and describes the position of Jingdezhen porcelain in the international market.

在作品采用传统的右开式近景构图，描绘的主角是一对有着漂亮羽毛的锦鸡。因为雄性锦鸡体格硕大，羽毛丰美，所以将雄鸡作为画中的主体，雌鸡作它的陪衬和呼应。锦鸡最引人注目的地方在它漂亮的长尾上，长长的尾巴使它的身形舒展而修长。中国古人认为鸡有文、武、仁、勇、信五德，常常将它比拟为仁人君子，以它入画，也是当时的画家喜欢在植物、动物身上寄托自身理想的习惯的体现。作为配景，作者选用了墨竹，令全景呈内敛的趋势。
